Proud Evans salutes players

MANAGER Steve Evans said last night's big cup win over Sheffield Wednesday made him a proud man.

Two super first-half strikes from Ben Pringle and Lee Frecklington sealed a thoroughly deserved 2-1 Capital One Cup success in front of a near capacity crowd at the New York Stadium.

It was Rotherham's first home win over their big city rivals since 1976.

Evans said: "We've beaten a fantastic football with a great history and tradition and good players. We always knew we would have to play exceptionally well to beat them and we did. I was so proud of them.

"Perhaps 2-1 doesn't reflect the game, it could have been more. It was an epic cup tie and the atmosphere was electric. The fans get better on every big occasion here and they lifted the players."

Evans said preparations would begin straight away for Saturday's League One home date with Preston North End.

"It's another huge one for us," he added.
