Promising signs in Millers' Academy

ROTHERHAM United's Academy head is confident the club's fresh accent on youth development will soon produce dividends.

Reece McGinley and Tom Maguire recently earned call-ups to Northern Ireland U19s and others are trying to follow home-grown striker Jerry Yates into the senior ranks.

The demands of the Championship have made that extra difficult but Head of Academy Garreth Barker says the club's youngsters are getting the support they need.

"You have to give things time to develop but the project here is just starting to come to fruition," he said. "We have two or three internationals, lads in the first team squad and some who will push next year.

"There is a good nucleus here now and some lads who have a good chance."
