Project provides 'Safe Haven' for vulnerable

VULNERABLE people on the streets will be helped by a new project aimed at providing a safe haven for those in need.

The Safe Haven project is based at Talbot Lane Methodist Church and will started work last Friday night.

Barrie Thomas, Rotherham Methodist Town Centre Chaplain, said: “This is a service that will provide a Safe Haven, for any vulnerable people found by the Rotherham Street Pastors or  other agencies, as they walk round the Town on Friday nights.

“They will escort anyone who is in need of a Safe Haven to us at Talbot Lane, where they will be welcomed, given a warm drink in a warm and safe environment, and a call will made to a relative or similar to collect them where appropriate.

“We will be active until 4am for the foreseeable future, or until the need is no longer there.”
