Probe after power cut damages electrical appliances

POLICE are investigating the cause of a power failure which cut off 140 Rotherham homes and caused thousands of pounds of damage.

Engineers from Yorkshire Energy Distribution found that a “neutral bar” used to ground the electricity at a substation in Stocks Lane, Rawmarsh, had gone missing.

The power cut, at 7am on Friday, left 140 homes without power and wrecked domestic applicances — one resident reported £1,000-worth of damage.

YEDL has written to householders saying it is not responsible for the damage.
