RUNNERS at the first-ever Love Later Life Run — being organised by Age UK Rotherham and the Advertiser — have an extra incentive for lacing up their shoes.

Not only will they be playing a part in helping to put our town on the map for the right reasons, we have teamed up with Dee Jay Trophies to offer 100 runners a commemorative medal.

The event will be held in Clifton Park on Sunday, May 7, and include a 5km race, which is three laps of the park, and a one-lap fun run.

And the first 100 people to cross the finish line of the 5km race will receive a medal in recognition of their efforts.

There will also be trophies for the first man and woman to cross the finish line.

But it’s not the running that will be the most important part of the day — we want it to be a celebration of everything that is fantastic about our town and borough.

We want EVERYONE to come together and we think one of the best ways of uniting Rotherham is to lace up our running shoes and get Fighting Fit.

Julie Benson, fundraising officer at Age UK Rotherham, said: “It’s all systems go for the run. We are up to around 50 entries at the minute.

“If we can get some more nearer the date and get people coming down on the day, then that will be fantastic for the first year.”

The family run will begin at 10.30am and the 5km race will begin at 11.15am.

Harworth Brass Band and Rotherham African Drummers will help keep the crowds entertained and the runners motivated.

The Deputy Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Eve Rose Keenan, has also given her backing to the event.

Entry for the 5km race costs £8, with entry to the fun run priced at £4.

Runners can either choose to raise sponsorship for Age UK or a charity of their choice.
