Positives despite spot-kick defeat: Evans

ROTHERHAM United manager Steve Evans can take some positives from Saturday's match against Hull City, despite an early exit from the Capital One Cup.

The visitors were dominant for the majority of the match but could not find a winning goal as it ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and a penalty shootout.

Their departure from the competition was confirmed when Mark Bradley's spot kick hit the bar, resulting in 7-6 victory for City.

Millers boss Evans felt his side came close to securing a place in the second round. He said: “We deserved to win the cup tie. I think they’ll feel a little fortunate to have gone through.

"I think the referee had a poor game, but he’s not the excuse because we played very well against a good Championship side."

United will be monitoring Laurence Wilson's fitness for their first fixture of the npower League Two season with Burton Albion after the left-back sustained an ankle injury in the early stages of the game.

Evans said: "If Laurence is a problem in the week we’ll assess that and then act on it.”
