Police probing 44 Rotherham child sex abuse cases

The force confirmed that as of January 25 there were 171 active referrals across the region with 44 of those being in Rotherham.

These are referrals that have come to police and are currently active.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Some of these will be criminal investigations but others will be reviewed and it will be found no crime has taken place and therefore a criminal investigation will not take place.

“Other safeguarding procedures may be put in place with partner agencies if appropriate.”
