Police chief candidates to be quizzed on crime

CANDIDATES for the control of South Yorkshire Police will face-off at a landmark business event next week.

Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with the Business Crime Reduction Centre to host a hustings for the prospective candidates to be South Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner.

The event will take place next Friday, November 9, at Dearne Valley College from 8.30am and will focus around issues relating to business crime.

The question-and-answer session comes six days before the five candidates—David Allen (English Democrat), Jonathan Arnott (UKIP), Nigel Bonson (Conservative), Robert Teal (Liberal Democrat) and    Shaun Wright (Labour) — stand for election.

Dominic Beck, policy adviser at the Chamber, said: “Business crime is one of the most important risks and dangers for businesses and manifests itself in a multitude of ways depending on the size and sector of the company.

 

“It has been a long-held priority for the Chamber that we lobby the key partners to ensure that business crime is held as a key area of attention and action, especially from South Yorkshire Police themselves.”
