Police appeal over Mexborough pub blaze

POLICE are appealing for information about a derelict pub damaged by fire last weekend.

Officers would like to speak to anyone with knowledge about the fire at the Red Lion Hotel last Saturday.

Firefighters from Dearne, Edlington, Rotherham and Doncaster stations attended the blaze on Bank Street at 9.30pm.

They tackled the fire in the three-storey building until 1.30am on Sunday.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said the fire is thought to have been started deliberately.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said that the cause of the fire is currently unknown.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to call police on 101, quoting incident number 1168 of December 2.
