Plum job for Rotherham firefighter

A ROTHERHAM firefighter has climbed almost to the top of the ladder with the county’s fire service.

Mark Shaw (pictured) has been appointed assistant chief fire officer by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority.

Mr Shaw, from Swallownest, has more than 27 years’ service as a fire officer in South Yorkshire.

He takes up the role immediately and becomes the director responsible for service development within South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

Mr Shaw said: “I am absolutely delighted to accept the position.

“The role of the fire service has expanded enormously over recent years, placing the community and its needs at the centre of all we seek to achieve.

“I am proud to be given the opportunity to contribute to our on-going successes in this arena.

South Yorkshire Fire Authority chairman, Cllr Jim Andrews, added: “We congratulate
