Plum job for Rotherham firefighter

Mark Shaw (pictured) has been appointed assistant chief fire officer by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority.

Mr Shaw, from Swallownest, has more than 27 years’ service as a fire officer in South Yorkshire.  

He takes up the role immediately and becomes the director responsible for service development within South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

Mr Shaw said: “I am absolutely delighted to accept the position.

“The role of the fire service has expanded enormously over recent years, placing the community and its needs at the centre of all we seek to achieve.

“I am proud to be given the opportunity to contribute to our on-going successes in this arena.

“I am committed to working with our employees, partners and all sections of our community to achieve our vision of a safer South Yorkshire.”

South Yorkshire Fire Authority chairman, Cllr Jim Andrews, added: “We congratulate

Mr Shaw on his appointment following what was a rigorous interview process.

“We look forward to working with him further on the future development of the fire service in South Yorkshire.”
