Michael Dunphy (45, pictured), of HMP Doncaster, was found guilty of four counts of kidnap and two counts of attempted robbery at Sheffield Crown Court today (Tuesday).

A jury of seven men and five women returned unanimous verdicts on all counts after deliberating for around three-and-a-half hours.

Dunphy was part of a gang of robbers who tried to take £500,000 from a branch of Barclays at Stag roundabout in November.

Three of them followed a bank employee from her home in a stolen Audi and kidnapped her, her seven-year-old daughter, and her colleagues Zoe Copley and Jo Blakey.

They forced two of the employees to open a safe before fleeing empty-handed minutes before police arrived.

Dunphy’s case was that he was facilitating the attempted robbery under duress and he had no knowledge of the kidnapping.

Judge Robert Bartfield directed the jury to return a not guilty verdict on a count of attempting to rob the seven-year-old who was kidnapped as part of the operation.
