THERE was fun in the sun and sheep on the run at Rotherham Hospice’s first annual Summer Baa-la.

The sun-soaked event at Herringthorpe Stadium on Saturday saw flocks of people turn out and support the charity.

Tea and cake, tug of war and egg and spoon racing all featured at the old-fashioned family fun day.

Pop-up charity shops offered clothes and goods, alongside games like tombola and a coconut shy.

But the main event was in the central arena — spilling out on to the athletics field at times.

The Lamb National saw seven sheep compete for glory, running around a fenced-off track and hurdling over obstacles.

But two competitors leapt the boundary fence and set off around the athletics track, pursued by several people.

Only when corralled by skilled sheep dogs did the lambs return to the field — just in time for the grand final race.

Around 800 people attended the gala, which has generated £6,800 so far, with more donations to be collected.
