Perfume thief sniffed out by security guards

A THIEF who stole perfume from a department store to try to sell on has been given a conditional discharge.

Terence Moncaster (38), of Winterhill Road, Kimberworth, admitted at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday (13) to taking two bottles of perfume worth £119 from Debenhams in Meadowhall in January.

Prosecutor Mrs Yvonne Wragg told the court that a security officer at Debenhams had seen Moncaster on a security camera putting bottles of perfume in his coat pocket and leaving the store without paying.

Moncaster was stopped outside the store and admitted in interview to taking the perfume.

He said he had gone to Meadowhall to steal and his intention had been to sell the perfume, Mrs Wragg told the court.

The court heard that Moncaster was on benefits.

He was given a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs.
