Pensioners are still night-clubbing in Rotherham at age 84

GROOVY grandparents Jean and Jack Atkinson will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary at a Rotherham nightclub tonight—by giving away £1,000.

The generous partying pair—with a combined age of 168—make the 60-mile round trip to Liquid & Envy from their Huddersfield home three times a week.

And to mark their special anniversary they will be giving away their own cash to the fellow revellers who have made them feel so welcome.

Retired brick-layer Jack (84) said: “This is our way of life, so this is our way of celebrating.

“All our family live abroad, so we’re donating the money as a way of saying thanks to everyone at Liquid, many of whom are younger than our own grandchildren, for showing us so much respect.

“Everyone’s just been so fantastic to us.”

Jack and Jean (84) have made hundreds of trips to Rotherham, been given free membership for life at the club and made more than a dozen TV appearances—including Top of the Pops and Trisha.

“We go out four nights a week, and three of those are in Rotherham,” said Jack. “We like it because it’s two clubs in one, and the atmosphere is much better than anything nearer to us. There’s nothing in Huddersfield really anymore.

“I drive and Jean drinks, and it gets us out of the house. Although all our neighbours are about the same age as us and going to bed just as we’re setting off out.

“It keeps us active, and we’re both pretty healthy.

"Jean cooks all her own food, we have nothing packaged. We don’t look our age, and we certainly don’t act it either!”

Liquid general manager Spencer Manuel said: “Jack and Jean are very well respected and adored by the all the staff and customers here.

“All the door staff, management and bar staff look forward to their visits and of course they are always welcome.

“It’s a pleasure to have them with us every weekend and an honour that they chose to celebrate such a special occasion with us.”
