Parking cheat used dead son-in-law's blue badge

ILLEGALLY using a disabled parking badge has landed a motorist with a bill of more than £800.

Alan Dixon (73), of Sycamore Avenue, Wickersley, was ordered to pay a total of £849 after being found guilty at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court of using his late son-in-law’s blue badge.

Dixon used the badge to park his car on Wharncliffe Street in Rotherham Town Centre on December 22 last year.

He was convicted in his absence and fined £525 with £309 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Mohammed Mobeen Yasin (44), of St Ann’s Road, Rotherham, pleaded guilty by letter to using his daughter’s blue badge on two occasions when his daughter was not present.

He was fined £100 for each offence and was ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge.

Martin Beard, parking services manager for Rotherham Borough Council, said: “These are excellent results in the fight against blue badge fraud.

“Hopefully, people will realise that we mean business and we will continue to catch and prosecute blue badge cheats.”
