Paramedic assaulted by drink-driver after Christmas Day crash

A DRINK-driver who was involved in a Christmas Day crash attacked a paramedic who went to her aid.

The woman was “heavily drunk” when she assaulted the paramedic in the early hours of the morning following the collision in Rotherham, said Insp Abdul Aziz.

Around the same time, a man who was found passed out in the middle of an Eastwood street also attacked another paramedic.

Insp Aziz said the man became violent when they approached him.

Despite the assaults – in which one paramedic lost a tooth – the emergency responders continued with their duties, he added.

The violent pair enjoyed a microwave Christmas dinner at the custody suite following their arrest, he added.

“Both assaults took place in the early hours of Christmas Day morning and both individuals were heavily drunk,” said Insp Aziz.

“We have released both, but they remain under investigation.”
