Palace date for ranger Kelly

A WALK in the woods has brought a forest ranger an audience with the Queen.

Kelly Brindley (31), from Dinnington, was summoned to Buckingham Palace to represent the Forestry Commission's regional team, who were up for an award.

The commission narrowly missed out on a top prize in the Civil Service Awards but the occasion was an unforgettable one.

Kelly said: “It was a real eye opener and also a very proud moment.

“We work with people at a grassroots level to help them get the most from the region's new woods.

“It was fantastic to represent the whole ranger team at what was a pretty glittering occasion.

“I never thought a job in the woods would take me to meet the Queen.”

Back in November, the rangers won the national Understanding and Engaging with Communities Award at the Civil Service Diversity and Equality Awards.

Their job includes overseeing a busy programme of events in South Yorkshire, including “green gym” sessions, Nordic walking, “buggyfit” and health walks.

Kelly, a graduate of Sheffield Hallam University and former pupil at Dinnington Comprehensive, was appointed two years ago.
