Nobody told me my Phillip was dead, says mum

THE PARENTS of a teenager who drowned in the lake at Manvers have revealed that they only realised he was dead when they saw his body in a hospital bed.

Sam and Gary Law say neither the police nor Sheffield Children's Hospital had warned them beforehand that their son, Philip, had died after a swimming accident last summer.

They say they were told only that he was "in a bad way," which they took to mean there were still signs of life.

Now the couple, of Kilnhurst Road, Rawmarsh, have complained to both South Yorkshire Police and the hospital.

They heard no evidence from ambulance staff at the inquest into Philip's death last week which made them wonder why he had not been certified dead at the scene.

The couple are also campaigning for more safety measures at the lake.
