Nissan Note Acenta Premium

REACHING the conclusion that size actually doesn’t matter all that much always had me walking away from Nissan’s Note with a sense of appreciation.

Nissan Note Acenta Premium

Engine: 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, petrol engine

Power: 79bhp and 80lb.ft. of torque

Performance: 0-62mph in 13.7 seconds and 106mph

Economy: 60.1mpg (combined)

CO2 emissions: 109g/km

Price: £14,150

It might not be the most stylish hatchback on the market but upright dimensions and squared-off rear make for the one thing that can prove more useful than sheer space in a car... Flexibility.

From rear seats which slide fore-and-aft to prioritise boot space (325 to 411 litres) or leg room, to the boot board which will neatly divide luggage space, it has been specifically designed to accommodate people and their detritus.

Nissan have now introduced new technology and a refreshed face to boot, but a new grille and rear light clusters are just part of the story.

Inside is a neatly designed cabin. Many of the plastics lack tactile appeal but the variety of finishes lift the overall ambience.

Climate control buttons set in a dial-like array, the inclusion of the touchscreen NissanConnect infotainment system and the sculpted chrome door pulls familiar to Juke owners are further highlights of my mid-range Note Acenta Premium 1.2 (£14,150).

Automatic wipers, headlights, heated door mirrors, an eco driving mode, Bluetooth hands free phone functions and music streaming and internet-connected sat-nav are standard.

The £1,200 Comfort Safety Pack added 360 degree exterior cameras, keyless entry and engine start and a panoramic sunroof.

The Note is not the last thing in driving thrills. The three-cylinder engine has a modest 79bhp and 80lb.ft. of torque, meaning a 13.7 second saunter to 62mph and 106mph top speed.

Claims of 60.1mpg and 109g/km help justify the relative lack of pace.

The Note rides well and will keep small families satisfied with its ample accommodation and impressive value for money.

Overall, it’s a quality hatchback with many of the perks of a small people carrier. Take Note.
