'Nine out of 10 policemen fear cuts'

NINE out of 10 police officers believe the cuts will cause crime to increase—and 99 per cent believe force morale is dipping.

Results from a Police Federation survey also show that 84 per cent believe their workload has already increased, ahead of the Government’s 20 per cent cut to policing.

Bob Pitt, chairman of the Federation in South Yorkshire, said: “The message from police officers is loud and clear.

“They feel they are being hit from all sides by the government. The federation accepts that policing must play its part in public sector cuts but cuts of this magnitude are criminal.”
