POLICE have made a fresh appeal for witnesses after a hit-and-run accident which left a man dead.

POLICE have made a fresh appeal for witnesses after a Dearne Valley hit-and-run accident which left a man dead.

Fifty-six-year-old Peter Topping died from the injuries he sustained when a car ran over him on Co-Operative Street, Goldthorpe, last Thursday.

At around 8.25pm, Mr Topping, from Goldthorpe, is believed to have been lying in the road on Co-Operative Street when a car drove over him.

The car is thought to have continued along Co-Operative Street and then turned right into Doncaster Road, before driving off.

A spokeswoman said: “Officers investigating the incident would like witnesses to come forward if they have seen Mr Topping lying in the road, seen the impact itself or think they may have been in the car that hit Mr Topping.

“Police are also interested to hear from anybody who has noticed the absence of a locally-owned car or seen an abandoned one.”
