New Audi R8 GT supercar adds even more performance

AUDI has upped the stakes once more with the latest version of its V10-engined R8 supercar.

Bound for the UK are 33 examples of a special edition R8 GT boasting more power and torque, less weight, and a more inflated price tag than any R8 that has come before.

Priced at £142,585 the GT is set to reach UK shores next summer and will pack 552bhp and 398lb.ft. of torque—up 34bhp and 7lb.ft. on the V10-engined R8 it is based on.

Shedding 100kg has also helped the new super-R8 produce accelerated performance figures.

Set to be the fastest ever road-going Audi, the GT will reach a 199mph top speed and will hit 62mph in just 3.6 seconds.

The new car comes on the back of the recently released R8 Spyder and has been inspired by the manufacturer's success in the LMS GT3 race series, where the R8 claimed 23 race wins in its first season and three championships in 2009 and 2010.

Obsessive weight saving has taken place and a full roll cage is even offered for motorsport fans who want to take their new £142,585 toy on track...

Decisively, however, the new Audi still fails to trump Lamborghini’s Gallardo on paper.

It seems that the German manufacturer is taking its role as the Italian marque’s ‘parent’ firm as seriously as ever.

Sibling rivalry can be a dangerous thing.
