New appeal in railway groping investigation

BRITISH Transport Police want the public’s help after a man groped himself in front of a young girl at Swinton railway station.

The man then boarded the same train as the girl and got off again at Rotherham.

The incident happened at around 6am on January 17.

Investigating officer PC Richard Ward urged people with information to contact the police.

He said: “The young girl was waiting for a train when a man tried to engage her in conversation, before asking inappropriate questions. He then began touching himself inappropriately over his clothing.

“Both the victim and the man boarded a train at Swinton, with the victim sitting away from the man, who left the train at Rotherham.”

He added: “The actions of the man at Swinton station left the young girl feeling extremely uncomfortable and distressed.

“She feared for her safety.

“It is vital we find the man responsible.”

The mystery man is described as Asian, aged in his 30s, around five feet eight inches in height, of slim build, with several metal – possibly gold – teeth.

He was wearing a black coat, black trousers and a black beanie hat and was carrying a black rucksack.
