MP takes LGBT charity fight to Parliament

SARAH Champion will sign a letter in Parliament demanding a Government commitment to fund a national LGBT domestic violence charity.

Broken Rainbow, the only organisation of its kind for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, faces closure over cashflow.

Rotherham MP Ms Champion will sign the letter, which calls for the Home Office to provide three years’ funding to keep open the Manchester-based charity.

She said: “The Government must commit to providing core funding to Broken Rainbow, the country’s only LGBT charity for those suffering from domestic abuse.

“The LGBT community pays its taxes so why doesn't the Government see fit to support a service that meets their needs?

“If the Government is unwilling to support the only national LGBT domestic violence charity in the country, it sends out a very dangerous message that the Government does not view the 10,000 people a year who use the service to be high on their list of priorities.”
