Millers expect to name new boss

ROTHERHAM United could know the identity of their new manager before this weekend’s League Two tussle with Hereford.

The Millers say they have been overwhelmed by the number of applicants for the job, including some high profile names.

The list of over 40 was whittled down to just five on Monday and Chairman Tony Stewart and the club board will complete the interview process by the end of this week.

Said United’s Chief Operating Officer Paul Douglas: “It is possible that we will make an appointment by the end of the week.

“We feel the right candidate is among the people we will be interviewing.

“Tony is keen that the new manager will have a real passion for the job, which is one of the key characteristics that we are looking at.”

Current caretaker boss Darren Patterson hasn’t applied but it is understood that former manager Mark Robins has been short-listed.

Rotherham went down 3-0 at Crawley on Saturday to effectively kill off any hopes of reaching the play-offs.
