Millers braced for ticket rush

THE clamour for tickets for Rotherham United’s opening match at the New York Stadium is expected to reach fever pitch when they go on sale this Saturday.

The curtain-raiser at the Millers’ plush new home will be a 50 per cent capacity friendly against Barnsley on July 21.

United are expecting an avalanche of enquiries from fans wanting to see the historic opener but don’t expect to put more than 1,000 tickets on general sale.

Crowd numbers are limited to 6,000, The club has 3,500 season ticket holders, all expected to be be there, plus around 500 corporate guests, meaning there will be a scramble for  the remaining seats.

They go on sale on Saturday at 9am from Mangham House and the Millers stress the game is strictly all-ticket with none available on the day of the game. The reason to game is 50 per cent capacity is to comply with safety certificate regulations.

The following game against Doncaster Rovers, on Tuesday, July 24, will have a 75 per cent capacity and is also all-ticket. General sale is also on Saturday, when tickets for the two full capacity friendlies against Hearts (July 28) and Sheffield United (July 31) will also be available.

Said a Millers’ spokesman: “We have to adhere to the regulations which is why we  have to stagger the capacity levels. We are expecting a high demand, especially for the first game.”

The opening times at Mangham House are 9-5pm on Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday while purchases can also be made by calling the ticket line on 08444 140733.

Tickets for the games against Hearts and the Blades will be available on the day if any are left, but only from Mangham House.
