Mexborough pub targeted by arsonists

FOUR crews fought a blaze at a derelict Mexborough pub on Saturday night.

Firefighters from Dearne, Edlington, Rotherham and Doncaster stations attended the Red Lion Hotel on Bank Street at 9.30pm.

They tackled the blaze in the three-storey building, which was well alight, until 1.30am on Sunday.

The fire is thought to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters attended several other arson attacks over the weekend.

Rotherham station was called to Sunnybank Crescent, Brinsworth, at around 1.30pm on Saturday.

They found conifers and a shed ablaze, leaving the scene at around 2.30pm.

Three crews attended a fire in a bin store at 3.30am on Sunday.

Appliances from Rotherham, Maltby and Dearne stations spent one hour at the scene.

One crew from Rotherham station was called to Woodside Walk, Munsbrough, at around 7pm on Sunday.

There the team put out a skip fire, leaving the scene around one hour later.

And Rotherham firefighters were also called to Holmes Lane, Holmes, at around 8pm on Sunday.

They were there for just 20 minutes, putting out a deliberate refuse fire.
