Mexborough flat fire 'arson'

A BLAZE at a Mexborough flat on Thursday morning is believed to have been arson.

The occupant of the Laburnum Road property was taken to hospital after the  kitchen fire.

Firefighters were called shortly before 10.30am and arrived to find the flat smoke logged.

The man, in his 20s, was treated by ambulance crews at the scene and then taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary suffering from the effects oof breathing smoke.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the cause was thought to have been deliberate.

Meanwhile, firefighters were called to a Portacabin on fire in Maltby on Thursday evening.

Crews from Edlington and Maltby stations arrived at the Quarryfield Lane incident shortly after 7.20pm.

The storage unit was used for garden centre equipment.

The fire is thought to have been started by a discarded cigarette.
