Incident Commander Neil Hessell said that he had never seen an incident like it in over 27 years as a firefighter.

He said: “We arrived to find a man in his 30s walking along the roof, throwing slates, chimney pots and television aerials onto the street below. Around six cars were damaged and there was a significant danger to the public,so the street was cordoned off.”

Firefighters had to dismantle the chimney stack before the man was eventually found at ground floor level suffering from leg injuries, abrasions and shock, more than two hours later.
