Voluntary Action Rotherham is co-ordinating a week of activities for National Volunteers’ Week from June 1 to 7, including a Big Walk around the town centre, which begins at 1.20pm on June 6 at All Saints’ Square.

VAR will also be holding events throughout the week celebrating volunteering and encouraging more people to give it a go.

Services manager Julie Adamson said: “You are never too old, or too young, never too busy and everyone has something to offer to volunteering.

“It is a great way of giving back to your community and gives you the feel good factor that other things often don’t.

“It is important for us to celebrate the unsung heroes who give so much to our town, and The Big Walk is just a little something to recognise them and say thank you.”

Refreshments will be on offer after the walk.

Volunteers and organisations who use them can book their spot on the walk by calling Alison Thorp on 01709 834462 or emailing [email protected] by June 2.
