Manvers roadworks to last another two weeks

A ROAD closed for weeks by floods could be closed for two more by work to remove concrete from the drains.

Several cars became stranded in water two feet deep at Dearne Road, Manvers, during storms in April.

Yorkshire Water is working to remove concrete from drains, thought to be impeding drainage and causing the floods.

The highway is currently blocked both ways by works, forcing commuters to divert up to three miles.

The Advertiser understands that the job is expected to take another two weeks — with the chance of further digging just up the street.

A Yorkshire Water spokesman said: “We have been working on a sewer which has been blocked by concrete, causing flooding on Dearne Road.

“Due to the sewer crossing the highway at Station Road, we have had to implement a road closure, with diversions put in place.

“Unfortunately, delays have occurred due to a large pump being stolen from the site and a digger being broken into, while road diversions signs have also been taken.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and will open the road again as quickly as possible.”
