Man who died in collision named

Michael John Mills (54) died after being hit by a van on Howard Street in the town centre, just before 3.50pm on Thursday, August 21.

Emergency services were called following reports of a collision between a van and a pedestrian.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: “A black VW panel van was parked on the street when it is believed it rolled forward onto a pedestrian area and collided with the man.

“Mr Mills, originally from Doncaster but living in Rotherham, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or events leading up to the collision.”
