A police spokesman confirmed the man had been talked down unharmed.

He said: "An adult male was threatening to jump off the roof. His family turned up first and were invaluable in supporting and encouraging the male to move away from the railings.

"We had contained the area, called out force negotiators and started our own communications.

"The male eventually moved away and is being assessed in an ambulance prior to any longer-term support."

Travel South Yorkshire tweeted about the incident as it happened.
