Man remanded on attempted murder charge

A 27-year-old man charged with attempted murder after a stabbing incident in Rotherham town centre on Wednesday has had his case committed to Sheffield Crown Court.

Azhar Hussain (27), of Carlisle Street, Rotherham, appeared at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court this morning. He was remanded in custody to appear at the higher court on September 10.

The 25-year-old woman taken to Rotherham General Hospital with multiple stab wounds after the lunchtime attack on Bridgegate is still being treated for her injuries, but they are no longer considered life-threatening.
