Man dies in Mexborough car smash

A 22-year-old man died and two passengers were injured after a car hit a lamppost and a tree in Mexborough.

The driver, from Bolton-on-Dearne, sustained fatal injuries after losing control of a Ford Mondeo on Mexborough Road, Bolton, near Hound Hill Lane at 12.40pm last Friday afternoon.

The car crossed the carriageway and went into a ditch after hitting a lamppost and a tree.

An 18-year-old front seat passenger from Bolton-on-Dearne and 19-year-old back seat passenger, from Thurnscoe, suffered slight injuries and were taken to Rotherham General Hospital but later discharged.
