Man dies after falling onto M18

A man died after falling from a bridge onto a motorway, where he was hit by a tanker and van.

The 44-year-old was struck by a Mercedes Actros travelling southbound on the M18 between junctions two and one.

A yellow Mercedes van also collided with the local man as he lay in the carriageway and he died from his injuries.

Police said he was believed to have fallen from the bridge at Cockhill Lane, Old Edlington.

Any witnesses to the incident, which happened shortly before 7am on Friday, are urged to call South Yorkshire Police on 01142 202020 quoting incident 179 of June 3.
