Man and woman held in terror raid probe

A MAN and a woman have been arrested by police hunting masked robbers who tied up a terrified elderly couple and stole cash and jewellery.

The man in his 30s and the woman in her 20s, were arrested in connection to a raid at a house in Nether Haugh.

Both suspects were released on bail as police continue their investigations.

After the burglary detectives issued descriptions of two men who broke into the property as the couple, both in their 70s, lay asleep.

The robbers, one armed with a weapon, burst into their bedroom shouting threats and demanding money at around 1am on Thursday June 23. 

The husband and wife were tied-up while the raiders ransacked the property.

Among the items stolen in the burglary is a gold engagement ring inlaid with five diamond stones.

The couple were treated by medical staff at the scene for shock, and the house was left in a ‘very untidy state’ after being ransacked by the robbers.

The burglars are described as two white men with a tall, thin build and spoke with Yorkshire accents.
