Man accused of Dearne stabbing murder

Gary McKeown (36), of Church Street, Thurnscoe, appeared before Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on Saturday. 

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Sheffield Crown Court on February 10.

A bail hearing is set to take place tomorrow.

Mr Smith, of Stotfold Drive, Thurnscoe, was found injured in Church Street, Thurnscoe, at around 4.30pm on January 28, after a disturbance near the junction with Houghton Road.

He was taken to Barnsley Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

A post-mortem found that he died as a result of being stabbed.
