MacShane sues over phone hacking

ROTHERHAM MP Denis MacShane has started legal proceedings against News International company News Group Newspapers after he was shown evidence that his mobile phone had been hacked.

Dr MacShane is the latest in a string of politicians and celebrities suing the British arm of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.

Mr MacShane said the evidence suggested his phone messages had been intercepted when he was Minister for Europe. It is alleged that News of the World private investigator Glenn Mulcaire, who was jailed in 2007 for phone hacking, had accessed his messages.
