MacMillan's cancer road-show rolls into town

MEXBOROUGH residents will be able to get cancer advice on their doorsteps next week.

Macmillan Cancer Support’s Mobile Information and Support Centre will be in town from 10am to 4pm on Monday dispensing advice to those needing support.

One in four people diagnosed with cancer in the UK will lack support from family or friends during their treatment and recovery, according to research by the charity.

There are two mobile centres, one in the North of England and one in the East Midlands — bright green buses staffed by cancer information specialists who are there for anyone with a question about cancer.

Helen Tuvey, service manager for Macmillan Mobile Information and Support Service, said: “No one should face cancer alone but a service such as ours means support is available nearby.

“We visit town and city centres across the area, providing answers to people's questions about cancer.

“We’re here for anyone — people who have had a cancer diagnosis, carers, friends or anyone who just wants to know more about cancer.

“The service is free, confidential and no appointment is necessary — just step on board.”

The big green bus will be in Hope Street from 10am to 4pm.

It will also be in All Saints’ Square, Rotherham, the same times on Tuesday.

If you are unable to visit the mobile information centre but require information about cancer, call Macmillan free on 0808 808 00 00 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm) or visit macmillan.org.uk.
