M1 reopened after vehicle fire

CONGESTION on the M1 has mostly cleared after a towed caravan caught fire between junctions 32 and 33.

Rolling roadblocks caused severe tailbacks on both the northbound and southbound carriageways, as smoke blew across the motorway.

The Highways England website reports that all lanes have been reopened, with minor ongoing congestion between junctions 33 and 34 expected to clear at around 3pm.

The agency earlier reported that all emergency services were attending the scene.
