Let's give it everything: Warne

PAUL Warne is in no doubt his battle-scarred Rotherham United players will go into tomorrow's Championship test against Aston Villa with clear minds.

The team will be glad to see the New York Stadium again after two hard away matches that saw a 5-0 beating at Cardiff followed by a 4-2 defeat at Brentford, sealed by two stoppage-time goals.

Without a win in eight games and 16 points from fourth-bottom Bristol City, relegation looks certain but interim boss Warne is determined to take anything he can from the remaining 12 matches.

"I'm just trying to get every little ounce I can out of this group and keep them positive," he said.

"We were unlucky to lose at Brentford but we just pick the lads up, brush them down and throw them back out again for the next game and have a right go. If that ends up with us winning five, it won't be enough. If it ends up with us winning ten then we'll all go on a plane to Vegas."

Warne went to Birmingham on Tuesday to see mid-table Villa chalk up a second straight win at the expense of Bristol City.

"There's a lot of pressure on them at home, the expectation levels are there but away from home they're better," he acknowledged. "Bristol City put up a good fight in the first half but Villa's quality came through and if they wanted to go up a gear, they could. They won the game in six minutes really."

Fit-again skipper Lee Frecklington could play some part tomorrow but Richard Wood (groin) is doubtful and goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell is out for a few weeks after injuring his finger in the warm-up at Brentford. Joel Ekstrand (knee) is another absentee.

Loan striker Carlton Morris, meanwhile, is expected to finally hook up with the squad next week after completing rehabilitation at parent club Norwich City following a hamstring injury, although Tuesday's home date with Brighton may come too soon for him.
