Last-minute appeal by Rotherham Hospice charity bed-pushers

A TEAM of charity bed-pushers have launched an appeal for some unusual transport to help them complete their task.

Alison Jepson, landlady of the Dearnesman pub at Wath, dreamed up the daunting walk for her regulars in honour of 40-year-old single mum of three Sarah Luty.

Sarah has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and the money raised by the walk will be shared between her children and the Rotherham Hospice.

Alison, who is not taking part in the challenge but will be preparing a warm welcome for the walkers, said: “We wanted to do something for her kids and to help make them a bit more comfortable financially.”

Alison said the team had managed to get hold of a hospital-style bed, it needs some repairs before they can use it, so they are appealing for someone with welding skills and equipment to come forward — or for someone to provide them with another hospital bed to use.

Time is running out as the walk is due to begin at the hospice at 11am on Saturday, April 9.
