Labour's Dan Jarvis elected first South Yorkshire regional mayor
Mr Jarvis — MP for Barnsley Central since 2011 — won 47.99 per cent of the first choice vote.
Turnout was just 25.82 per cent across South Yorkshire, with four out of five people in Rotherham not turning out to vote.

Winner Mr Jarvis visited the University Centre Rotherham, currently under construction at Doncaster Gate and part-funded by SCR, during his election campaign.
He said: “It shows how by working together, and taking decisions locally rather than relying on the Government in London, we can create jobs and secure the investment that we need.
“I want to champion schemes like the UCR but also keep banging the drum to get South Yorkshire the resources that we need to build a stronger, fairer economy in the future.”
