Mr Fretwell (47) was found dead in his flat on Kingswood Avenue, Laughton en le Morthen, by police and had sustained more than 70 injuries and been beaten with a blunt instrument.

The trial has heard one possible motive was robbery as the victim’s wallet had been stolen during the attack.

The defendants have denied any involvement and claim they were asleep at the time of Mr Fretwell’s death at the Croft Mews flat.
