Jobs axed at Rotherham Citizens Advice Bureau

MORE than 23 staff are to lose their jobs at Rotherham Citizens' Advice Bureau as a result of Government cutbacks.

Reduundancy notices have been issued to 23 full and part-time workers at the town's branch of the advice charity. Their employment will end on March 31.

The job losses have been caused by the Government cutting the Financial Inclusion Fund (FIF) a £130 million initiative set up by the previous administration to provide people with free face-to-face money advice, banking services and affordable credit.

The fund, along with other funding streams, accounts for around 80 per cent of the bureau’s funding and pays for the bulk of the work within the community.

Annette Cassam, chief executive of Rotherham CAB, said: “This is a devastating blow for our staff at the bureau.

“We are currently working on a restructuring plan which will see some jobs remain after March, but the service we will be able to offer the community will be significantly reduced.”

Rotherham Borough Council is continuing to support the town’s branch by providing the charity’s core funding.
