Hunt for Rotherham knifeman taxi driver

POLICE have released an e-fit photo of a taxi driver suspected of stabbing a passenger in a late-night attack.

Officers want to identify the driver who picked the customer up outside Rotherham’s Pop nightclub before allegedly knifing him in the leg after a fare dispute.

The alleged victim, an 18-year-old man, and his friend got into a taxi near the nightclub in Rotherham town centre at around 2.35am on Friday, June 3.

They asked to be taken to Rossington in Doncaster and how much the fare would be.

They agreed a price of £28 and paid £30 up front to the taxi driver.

As the pair left the taxi on arriving in Lansbury Avenue, Rossington, at 3.15am, the driver allegedly asked for £40.

Having already paid, the two men ignored the driver and began to walk away.

Police said that the driver had then got out of his taxi and allegedly stabbed the 18-year-old man in the top of his leg with an unknown implement before climbing back into the taxi and driving away.

The driver is described as late 20s to early 30s.

He is approximately 5ft 8ins to 5ft 10ins tall, of stocky build with long, straight dark hair, about an inch past his ears, with a fringe diagonally from left to right, covering his forehead.

He also has a full beard including moustache.

His car is believed to be a white saloon.
