Officers were called to reports of cable theft at Denaby Main level crossing between 7pm and 7.30pm on Monday, April 16.

When they arrived, they found that the cables were on fire — the blaze is believed to have been started deliberately.

Damage to the cables — valued at £42,000 — caused severe delays to the rail network, said a British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman.

Witnesses or anyone with information can call BTP on 0800 405040, or text 61016 quoting reference 531 of April 16.
