The HR systems and compliance team at Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust scooped a trophy at the Healthcare People Management Association (HPMA) Awards 2018.

The prize, in the HR analytics category, recognised their efforts to reduce spending on non-medical agency staff by 28 per cent.

Previously, different parts of the trust worked alone when setting staffing levels.

The award-winning team saw scope for improvement and worked with colleagues to produce a weekly staffing report.

That change, amongst others, has saved the trust £1.2 million in just 12 months.

Danielle Petch, associate director of HR, said: “This has led to us better using our staff to cover any leave or absence, reducing the need for non-medical agency staff.

“It is also fantastic to see that on the back of this success, other NHS organisations now want to work with us to learn more about our process and see if it, and our success, can be emulated elsewhere.”
