Heart Town group appeals for helpers

A NEW fund-raising group met for the first time this week—and has appealed for volunteers to join its committee.

Rotherham signed up as an official Heart Town in January and the British Heart Foundation is planning a busy year of events.

There are vacancies on the Heart Town committee for volunteer roles as treasurer and secretary, as well as general helpers.

BHF lead volunteer June Thomas said: “We are looking for committed volunteers to help us raise funds for the charity’s lifesaving work.

“New committee members will help with planning a major sponsored walk and other top events that are exciting for all the family to enjoy and bring communities together.

“We also need help with the background admin work that is part of a successful fund-raising committee.”

There are currently five volunteers—including June—in the fund-raising group but the BHF’s profile is expected to rise through the five-year Heart Town initiative.

June said: “We desperately need people with experience in committee or trustee work. We also need people who can bring ideas and experience in planning and running events.

“We would like to talk with anyone who genuinely wants to be involved in making Rotherham a fantastic Heart Town and in beating heart disease.

“We are a friendly group and hope to have lots of fun too.”

The first fund-raising committee meeting will be held in the Wentworth Building at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology tomorrow (23) at 5pm.

Monthly meetings will be held there on the last Thursday of each month. For more information call June on 01909 518062, email [email protected] or visit www.bhf.org.uk.
